MONDAY 9TH AUGUST TO FRIDAY 13TH AUGUST 2021 (5 DAYS)
Travel to the land of the brave for the world famous Edinburgh Tattoo which is the military’s contribution to the Edinburgh Festival. The varied programme includes music from the massed pipes and drums of the Scottish Regiments and the atmosphere becomes quite electric with the vibrancy of the music and the excited applause of the thousands of spectators that make this an occasion that is unrivalled and truly memorable. Our hotel is the 4 star Holiday Inn in Edinburgh and unfortunately it is unable to offer any single rooms. Rooms are available for single occupancy but there is a single supplement charge.
Monday: The motorway network takes us northwards stops being made for coffee, lunch and tea enabling us to reach our hotel in the early evening.
Tuesday: Today’s excursion takes us over the Queensferry Bridge to visit ancient St. Andrews (Coffee) and then cross the River Dee to “Discovery Point”. The afternoon is spent at Glamis Castle, childhood home of the Queen Mother.
Wednesday: Today we have free time in Edinburgh with the opportunity to walk the Royal Mile, Princes Street, visit the Cathedral, Holyrood House or the Royal Yacht Britannia. We should also take an “Open Top Bus Tour” to ensure that we do not miss any of the famous sights of this fabulous city. Following our evening meal at the hotel it is time to climb up the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle and take our seats for the Tattoo. As darkness deepens the great oak doors of the castle sweep open and the swirl of the pipes and drums cracks through the night sky – WELCOME TO SCOTLAND!!
Thursday: Following a leisurely breakfast we drive to Aberfoyle and then over the “Dukes Pass” to enter “The Trossachs” and enjoy a cruise on “SS Sir Walter Scott” as she sails amongst the wondrous scenery of Loch Katrine that inspired him to write “The Lady of the Lake”.
Friday: Return home along the motorways suitable stops being made for coffee, lunch and tea. Home by approximately 8.00pm.
(Please note that the tattoo is an outdoor event at an historic site. The seats are steeply tiered and accessed by many steps. It is therefore not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties).
