WHITSTABLE AND DEAL OR WALMER CASTLE – Tuesday 15th August 2023

The opportunity to visit two contrasting seaside resorts. We stop for a break in Whitstable whose pretty weather boarded cottages, winding lanes and alleyways recall its maritime history. In the afternoon we drive around Canterbury to reach Deal. Deal is a quiet resort that time has passed by and it still retains its original Georgian architecture. It has an interesting Time Ball Tower, Castle and Maritime Museum. The traditional shopping centre has many independent shops. It is also possible on this tour to visit Walmer Casttle (admission extra – English Heritage). Walmer Castle, once the home of H.M. The Queen Mother, is beautifully furnished and has glorious gardens. Another resident was the Duke of Wellington. Walmer has a tea room and we arrive home by approximately 7.30pm
