CITY OF WINCHESTER
12th December 2020
Today we visit Winchester, the unspoilt cathedral city on the edge of the South Downs, once England’s ancient capital and former seat of King Alfred the Great. Winchester combines the best of city life with the freshness of the surrounding countryside. Winchester’s bustling shopping streets sit side by side with ancient alleyways and pedestrianised walkways all centred around its imposing cathedral which as well as being one of the largest cathedrals in Europe has the largest nave and overall length of all the Gothic cathedrals in Europe and is the final resting place of Jane Austen. We shall have at least four hours in this historic city arriving home by approximately 7.30pm..
