Following a stop at Pembury Garden Centre for coffee we arrive in Battle to visit the small town where William the Conqueror defeated Harold in 1066. The Battle site is preserved by English Heritage and a visit to the Abbey ruins and grounds enables us to stand at the “Harold Stone” and then relive the drama of the Battle in the special exhibition. During the afternoon we drive to Bexhill for tea and a breath of sea air, the resort being dominated by the impressive De La Warr Pavilion. Home by approximately 7.30pm.
