WILTSHIRE WANDERER
30th September 2021
We stop for coffee at Beaconsfield Services and then follow the motorway through the Chiltern Hills, around Oxford and into the Cotswolds, stopping for lunch in the delightful market town of Malmesbury dominated by its ancient market cross and Abbey ruins. In the afternoon we visit Lacock. The village is owned by the National Trust who have ensured that there are no intrusive power cables or modern-day eyesores to interfere with the 16th-century atmosphere of one of the prettiest villages in England. The scene is overlooked by Lacock Abbey, founded in 1232 and rebuilt during the 16th century. Because of its unique ambience the village has appeared in many films and television serials including Cranford, Pride and Prejudice, Emma and Harry Potter. Return home by way of Calne, Marlborough and the M.4. Home by approximately 7.30pm.
