WILTSHIRE WANDERER Saturday 1st June 2024

1st June 2024

Today we drive through the beautiful countryside of the Cotswolds stopping for a lunch break in the picturesque town of Malmesbury noted for its old Abbey Church, Abbey House Gardens (always worth a visit) and ancient Market Cross providing the setting for the Farmers Market. Suitably refreshed we continue through the Cotswold Hills to reach Lacock. The village is owned by the National Trust who have ensured that there are no intrusive power cables or other modern-day eyesores to interfere with the 16th century atmosphere of one of the prettiest villages in England. The scene is overlooked by Lacock Abbey, founded in 1262. Because of its unique ambience the village has appeared in numerous films and T.V. series including Cranford, Pride and Prejudice, Emma and Harry Potter. Return home by way of Calne, Marlborough and the M4.

Home by approximately 7.30pm
