The ‘Emerald Isle’ has a unique brand of magic of its own and has a countryside full of splendid seascapes and legendary lakes. Our holiday provides the opportunity to sample the scenery, heritage and charm which makes Ireland ‘the land of a thousand welcomes. The holiday is based at the luxurious Dunadry Hotel, Antrim whose amenities include a heated swimming pool and fitness centre.
Saturday: Northwards along the Great North Road, stopping at Peterborough (coffee break), Wetherby ((lunch break), Rheged (Tea break) and overnight at Dumfries.
Sunday: Drive across Galloway and through the Scottish border country to reach Cairnryan where the ferry awaits to take us over the Irish Sea to Larne. Having arrived in Ireland we follow the Antrim Coast Road, regarded a sone of the finest marine drives in Europe to Ballycastle (tea break) from where it is a short drive to the Dunadry Hotel, near Antrim.
Monday: Today we drive into Belfast to visit “Titanic Belfast” which has recently been acclaimed one of “The World’s leading Tourist Attractions”. It is an interactive exhibition standing on the site where Titanic was built over 100 years ago and has special effects, full-scale reconstructions and innovative features to explore the Titanic story in a fresh and insightful way. In the afternoon we visit Hillsborough Castle, the King’s official residence in Northern Ireland. Here, we have a guided tour of the State Rooms including the throne room and gardens.
Tuesday: Our first visit today takes us to the Giant’s Causeway and later on follow the coast road into the walled city of Londonderry, where we have the opportunity to walk the city walls, visit the Cathedral and museum that provides an interesting insight into the city’s tumultuous past.
Wednesday: After breakfast we commence our return journey to Larne and the ferry to Cairnryan. before heading back through Galloway, stopping for tea at the “Devils Porridge Museum”, to our overnight hotel in Cumbria.
Thursday: Homeward bound along the motorways, stopping for lunch in Lichfield and arriving home by approximately 7.00pm.
